Zlepieniec parczewski z Olkusza i związana z nim szata roślinna

Abstract

The location of former excavations of Parcze conglomerate in Olkusz, in which this rock has been exploited for about 600 years was shown. On the base of analysis of literature and authors’ own obser-vations specific features of this material of reddish colour, which was mostly used to built defensive walls, churches, mo-nasteries and secular buildings in Olkusz were presented. It is of fundamental significance for the history of this town. It was determined that this rock is characterised by maritime genesis (the presence of remnants of mollusks and echino-derms) and it comes from the Middle Jurassic period. The analysis of flora and vegetation connected with this specific substratum did not show differences in relation to common in this region excavations of carbonate rocks.
